There are racing horses, war horses, working horses and then there's the Maremmano, the all-purpose horse. Originally from Tuscany (Central Italy), it is used by the guardians of the herds, the butteri (Italian cowboys) as well as the army and the police. A sturdy animal of average size (about 1,55m), it can also be used for light draught and agricultural work or just simply, as it is today, for equine tourism. Docile and intelligent, it is said it has in its veins, just like the Lipizzan, some drops of Neopolitan blood. Hence it's air of nobility.
